i fished the river yesterday and did very well with another river slam of walleye, smallmouth, striped bass and catfish. we landed a beautiful smallmouth over 3lbs on a rat-l-trap and then the rains came, what else is new. this morning the river was up a little bit and a tad muddier but i gave it another go.
on the first cast i hooked into what i assumed was the smallmouth of a lifetime. the fish inhaled my rat-l-trap and i could do little more than hold on as he made multiple scorching runs while i was on a fast drift. 10 minutes later i was shocked to see a 26 inch striper in my net, the biggest bass i've ever caught in the river during the dog days of summer.
we went on to catch a dozen beautiful smallies until.....it started raining again. we just can't seem to put together a whole week without rain this summer.
