This one's for you Harry

Soak it in people and enjoy this ride. This team is one of the best this city has ever had and I truly believe that they have at least a couple more titles in them. Words can't express what this ball club has done for this city and this area in general.

Lastly..........

Fuck you Ron Darling, Buck Martinez, Chip Caray, and an extra special fat dick in your face in advance to Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.

Strange Day At the Park

Today was one of the strangest days of fishing I've had in a while. I woke up at 4:30 am and drove to the shore to meet Nick for some surfcasting. We were on the beach by 6:30. Not long after we got our lines in the water one of my rods got creamed. I was fishing with a whole bunker head, a favorite bait of big Striped Bass. I had just respooled my reel with 30 lb. braided line and never set the drag, of course it ws screwed all the way down. The line snapped and I lost the fish. The next 5 hours were uneventful except for a Fluke that I caught on a metal spoon I was tossing around.

Around 11 am all hell broke loose when a school of monster Bluefish came raging through, this was more like it. We suddenly went from no action to mayhem, with two rods going down every few minutes. At this point, seemingly out of nowhere, 5 big ugly lesbians came riding up on horses, almost getting caught up in our lines. They went on their way and we continued catching big ass Bluefish. About 30 minutes later I see a horse at a full gallop charging down the beach towards our lines again, only no one is in the saddle this time. This horse had apparently gotten tired of these women and bucked one of them off his back. The horse goes flying past us at about 40 mph and we are like "what the fuck?" 5 minutes later one of the women comes galloping up on her horse and jumps off and screams at me "We have a runaway horse and I need your truck!" She hands Nick the bridle and says "hold on to my horse" and she jumps into my truck.

Although I didn't realize it at the time, Nick has never been around a horse, but this woman was being pretty demanding so he takes the horse by a short rope and I jump into my truck with man-lady. We take off down the beach (the runaway horse is no longer in sight at all) and I'm doing about 50 mph with this woman in the passenger seat, our heads are bouncing off the ceiling of the truck and I'm afraid we're gonna flip, but hey there's a runaway horse on the beach and this woman looks like she could kick me and Nick's ass with one arm tied behind her back so I'm just taking orders at this point. She informs me that the horse's name is "Victory Lap" and he has just been retired from Monmouth Park racetrack and this was his first ever ride on the beach. Apparently he didn't like being ridden very much so he kicked off one of these women and decided to split.

Are you still following this here? I'm chasing a racheorse in my truck on an open beach, Nick is holding onto a horse while 4 of our lines are in the water during a Bluefish blitz, and he's never been around a horse. It takes me about 4 miles to catch up to "Victory Lap" and "Betty" jumps out to stop this runaway beast. (I don't know what her real name was, but let's just call her Betty) The horse is having no part of this shit, he's living the dream, running at full speed down a beach, far away and free from his angry lesbian handler. Betty stands in front of the horse to stop him but he ain't having it, he almost runs her over and keeps on charging toward Seaside Park. So back in the truck we go, back in pursuit of Victory Lap.

Betty curses like a trucker, except maybe worse. She's literally saying "fucking stupid motherfuckin' cocksucker horse, I don't need this fuckin' bullshit" etc. My mind starts to turn to Nick, who unbeknownst to me is having a shitty time with the other horse. This horse fucking hates him and is using his head to try and bowl Nick over. I, on the other hand, am worried about my rods, I'm imagining Nick standing there holding onto a horse while my Van Staal gets dragged into the wash. Anyway, about 20 minutes later we double team the horse and he gives up, Betty jumps on his back and ties a makeshift bridle on him and I begin the long ride back to base camp.

I get back and Nick looks troubled, he tells me that the horse doesn't like him and to top it off there's some weird foreigner standing there babbling at Nick in some completely bastardized version of Spanish and English just making matters worse. Eventually Betty pops up on the horizon to take this horse of our hands. Nick and I start reviewing everything that just transpired when one of Nick's rods gets hammered.

Only it's not a fish, it's a seagull tangled up in his line. I said "Nick, let's get the fuck out of here." I had a feeling that if we stayed a minute longer we would get hit by a meteorite or some extra bizzare shit.

My time of year

My river Smallmouth season is pretty much finished, but it was a great year on the river overall. Lots of big fish were landed by everyone I know, most people caught their personal best in 2009. We might as well enjoy this while it lasts, soon the new Shad and Herring restrictions will be put in place, making it tougher on those of us who fish the river regularly. I have a few dates still available for surfcasting this November but only a few. If you were thinking of fishing with me now would be a good time to book.

Thanks to everyone that has booked me this fall, so far we've had nothing but great fishing and I've gotten to fish with a lot of cool people too. Please visit my new website for my guide service at www.mickeysfishing.com

Big Bruiser Bluefish

We went Bluefishing last night on the Miss Norma Kae III and my arms are sore today from landing so many big brutes. The winds were whipping at above 30 knots and the sea was as nasty as I've ever seen it on a head boat trip.

The highlight of the night was when a Mako Shark came feeding through our slick. Sean was reeling in a big Bluefish when the Mako swooped in and bit his Bluefish in half. Seconds later the Mako tried the same shit on another guy's fish and ended up getting himself hooked. After 4 awesome aerial leaps 6 feet out of the water he finally won the battle by snapping the angler's line. They are very impressive fish, I really want to catch a big one someday.
