Today I had Dana and his buddy up from Virginia for their first ever surfcasting trip. I woke up at 5am to driving rain and a NE wind of about 15-20 mph. We arrived at Island Beach State Park to find almost no beach at dead low tide and the first few casts revealed that 8 ozs. of lead was not going to be enough to hold bottom. After loading up 6 rods with 10zs. and bait we began a long day of hard work. Luckily we were rewarded with 4 bass to 28 inches in the roughest conditions imaginable. The big fish continue to elude me from the surf this fall but overall the bite has been steady with fish on every trip.

Steady Pick from the Surf today
Today I hosted my friend Zach for a Surfcasting charter down in Beach Haven and we enjoyed a steady pick of Stripers and Blues all of which were tagged and released for the American Littoral Society. The wind was 20 mph NE and it took 8 ozs. to hold bottom but as usually is the case with a NE blow the fish were there in numbers. What the fish lacked in size was made up for in numbers although we did a lose a couple of larger fish.

Those who catch much fish are We.
I fished with Chris, Lou, and Mark today and we quickly had our limit of Striped Bass and Bluefish including my first few big Bass of the fall (up to 25 lbs.) We were releasing keeper size Bass by 10 am and we just kept boating fish until we got bored and left them still biting. Now would be your last chance to get in on this action, I would highly recommend it. We will be running Striper trips until about the first week in December.
