Episode IV Now Online!

Our fourth installment of the Brownie Troop Fishing Show "Spring Surf Fishing" is now posted on the site. Please follow the menu above to view it. Surfcasting is my favorite kind of fishing and on this night I was reminded of why I love it the most.
There is nothing like landing a fish while standing on the edge of the ocean, it's the fairest fight in all of fishing. Wait 'til you see the conditions we were fishing in. Some very nasty stuff.

I just struck gold. I went to Dick's Sporting Goods to purchase a new setup for Smallmouth and the guy behing the counter told me they had a bunch of the old Shimano Stradic reels in the back and they were blowing them out for around 65 bucks. I already have 2 Stradics and I paid double that for both of them. I'm gonna go break 'em in on some fish tomorrow at 6am. My friend Tom Matthews and I fished the Delaware River this morning up around Stockton and landed some beautiful smallmouth up to 2lbs. Great stuff.

TAKE A KID FISHING.

This is my son and my wife's goddaughter today in the creek behind my house. It was Lauren's first fish ever (the Smallmouth) and Mikey managed a Creek Chub. I like these kind of fishing reports, look at those smiles......

Delaware Recon trip

Chris and I went out and fished the river this morning on a recon trip, not for filming, just a look-see. We caught about 2 dozen nice smallmouth bass, nothing too spectacular, but a lot of them. We also landed a little spike walleye. Chris is now doing Delaware River fishing trips for smallmouth. For information on booking him please check out http://www.ardentangler.org

Here's a pic taken from my boat of Josh Sowden with a nice Smallie.

The best Spring ever?

As the temperature rises and the girls start wearing less and less it's obvious that summer is officially here. I want to take a minute here to reflect on this spring though first. I'm 37 years old and I've been fishing since I can remember, and I have never seen anything like the Striped Bass showing I did this spring. By my estimate, I caught over 500 lbs. of Striped Bass (with a broken leg) and had only ONE FISH that wasn't above keeper size. (I kept 2 fish this spring just for the record--the rest were released). I have never experienced a bunker push like the one we saw at the Jersey Shore, and as far as I know they are still there and there are bass on them. I'm an avid surfcaster first and foremost, in all honesty I'd rather catch a 15 lb. bass from the beach than a 25lber from a boat but through May and June we caught Bass using every technique on the planet--from the surf, in the river, chunking, livelining, snag and drop--everything except fly fishing. I had never broken the 40lb mark until this spring and I did it twice in one day this year. To me they are all beautiful, the short ones, and the cows too. Be thankful for what you've got people, please take care in releasing these beautiful fish so they will be around in these kind of numbers for your grandchildren. Only keep what you intend to eat, and go give 'em hell.

Cool mention in today's newspaper

We fished on a full moon/high tide last Wednesday and filmed it for the fishing show. It will be our next episode. There was an article about it in today's paper. Click here to read it http://www.courierpostonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008806270376
